This page covers climbtennis.com, the Climb Tennis app, and the texts Climb Tennis sends for your team. The app and the texts are in testing and aren't in the app stores yet.

The short version

What if my captain adds my number?

Your captain adds your name and mobile number to the team's roster, after confirming that you agreed to get texts from Climb Tennis about the team.

You can also give us your number yourself, when you sign up or on the team link your captain shares. Either way, we first text it a code to check it's your phone. A number you give on the team link then gets the team's texts too.

We don't text a number without one of these.

The texts are about your team only: asking when you can play, lineups, reminders, scores, and changed dates. They're never marketing.

Each text comes from Climb Tennis for your captain and names your captain. Replies go to Climb Tennis, not to your captain's phone.

The first text says who added you, the team, and why you're getting it, with your own link to see your matches without the app.

How often depends on your team's schedule, usually a few texts around each match. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply.

Reply STOP to any text to stop them all, on every team, right away. Your captain sees that you stopped them. Reply HELP to any text for help.

When you reply, for example Y or IN, we keep your answer and when it came, and your captain sees your answer.

We keep your number, who confirmed you agreed to texts and when, and whether you've stopped them. If you reply STOP, your number goes on a do-not-text list, so no team's texts reach it again. If you never signed up, we then keep your number only on that list.

Twilio sends our texts. We delete each text's record from Twilio 30 days after it's sent, and Twilio's backups can hold it up to 30 more days.

We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number or messaging consent data to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

What if I join the waitlist?

If you join the waitlist, we store your email address, which side of the page was showing, whether you watched the tour, your answer to “Do you captain a league team?” if you give one, and the date you joined.

Your answer decides whether you're on the captains' list. Before we asked, the side of the page that was showing decided it.

We use it for launch news and a few updates. We don't email the list yet.

We keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Unsubscribing deletes it. We never sell it or share it with anyone else.

The companies listed on this page store it only so we can keep the list. A visitor can't read the list.

What if I create an account?

You sign in with Apple, Google, or your email. Every account confirms a mobile number with a text code.

We keep your name, your email if you give one, your mobile number, and your USTA member number if you add it. You can skip the member number.

If you use Apple or Google, we get the name and email they share with us. Google also sends a link to your profile picture, which our sign-in service keeps and we don't use.

When you sign in, our sign-in service records the IP address and device it saw, to keep your account safe.

Your team sees your name. Only your team's captains see your number.

A captain can pick players from their phone's contacts. Climb Tennis gets only the people they pick, nothing else from the contacts.

If you add a player with a number that's already someone else's, we keep when it happened, but not the number, so nobody can use the app to find out whose a number is.

If you allow notifications, we keep your phone's notification address so we can send you alerts. They go through Expo, and Apple or Google deliver them to your phone.

We keep all of this until you delete your account.

What does the app keep about my team?

Your availability, your answers to lineups, and your scores, with who set each one and how: in the app, by text, by link, or by your captain.

Your team's captains see your answers. When the captains look for a new date, the other team's captain sees only whether a date works for your team, never your own answers.

After a match, your captain can send the other team's captain a link to confirm the score. It shows the lines, who played them, and the scores.

If you claim a team or ask to join one, we keep your claim or request and when you made it. The team's captains see your request to join. A claim waits until you share the team's TennisLink schedule from your own USTA login, or for us to check it, and we keep why. To check a claim, we may text or call your number.

If you captain a team, its name is your last name. Anyone signed in sees your full name as its captain, and anyone with the team's link sees its name. When you change your last name in the app, the team's name changes with it.

If you sign in and a captain has your number on their roster under someone else's name, you can say it isn't you. That captain then sees the number marked “not me,” so they can fix it.

To load the season, a captain shares their TennisLink schedule page or a screenshot of it. We read it once to find the matches, and delete it once the captain confirms the list. Only the matches are kept. Your USTA password never touches Climb Tennis.

Your own link opens your matches without the app. It's signed and expires: it can't be changed to open someone else's, and it stops working after a while. Until then, anyone you forward it to can use it, so keep it to yourself.

If your captain added you and you never signed up, you stay on that team's roster until your captain removes you or you ask us.

If you delete your account, we keep match results with your name taken off, so ratings stay right.

Will you ask for my USTA password?

We'll never ask for your USTA password. We won't log in to USTA or TennisLink for you.

If sign-up asks for a USTA member number, you can skip it. That number is not your password.

If anything that claims to be Climb Tennis asks for your USTA password, it isn't us. Tell us at privacy@climbtennis.com.

What do you count when I visit the site?

Each page view is one anonymous event. We record only the kind of page and the status it answered with.

On the waitlist page, we also count a few taps the same way: joining, answering the captain question, playing the tour, and switching sides. Each says which side was showing, never your email.

There are no cookies, no IP address, no ID that lasts past that page, and no profile of you.

Our server sends it to PostHog in the United States. Only climbtennis.com is counted. Nothing follows you to other sites or apps.

  • page_viewed. We count one page view: the kind of page, and the status it answered with.

  • waitlist_signup. On the waitlist page, we count a signup: which side was showing, and whether the tour played first. Never the email.

  • waitlist_captain_answer. We count an answer to the captain question: yes or no, and which side was showing.

  • waitlist_tour_play. We count the tour starting, and which side was showing.

  • waitlist_tour_complete. We count the tour playing to the end, and which side was showing.

  • waitlist_switch. We count a switch between the players' and captains' sides, and whether it was the switch or the link above it.

What happens when something breaks?

When something breaks on the site, a report goes through our site to Sentry in the United States.

The report says what broke, which kind of page it was (not the page's address), the browser, and the release.

It never includes your IP address, cookies, what you typed, or search words from the address.

When the app crashes, a report goes to Sentry too, with names and phone numbers taken out.

Sentry keeps reports for 30 days.

Do you use cookies?

No. The site stores nothing in your browser: no cookies, and nothing saved for the next visit.

The app keeps you signed in by saving a sign-in key on your phone.

How do I see or delete my information?

Email privacy@climbtennis.com to see what we have or to delete it. We answer within 30 days.

In the app, go to Settings, then Delete account. It removes your account and what it keeps, except match results with your name taken off, and your last name as a team's name (below).

If you captain a team, the co-captain who has been one longest takes it over, and the team takes their last name. With no co-captain, the team keeps your last name as its name until another captain takes it over.

If your captain added you and you never signed up, email us or ask your captain to remove you.

A deleted record can stay in our database's backups and logs for up to 7 days.
